Films I Liked in 2016

Just like I did with albums and songs, I thought a quick list of the films I liked this year would be a fun thing to put together in between all these other posts. I didn’t get to see quite as many films this year as last, but as a whole I think it was a much better year for the medium that climaxed in a weekend in which my favorite genre was resurrected alongside the release of a new Star Wars film. You can’t beat that. Here we go:

Honorable Mention: Sausage Party (Conrad Vernon & Greg Tiernan), Midnight Special (Jeff Nichols), Hail, Caesar! (The Coen Brothers)

15. The Jungle Book (Jon Favreau)

14. Hell or High Water (David MacKenzie)

13. Don’t Breathe (Fede Alvarez)

12. Ten Cloverfield Lane (Dan Trachtenberg)

11. The Nice Guys (Shane Black)

10. Manchester by the Sea (Kenneth Lonergan)

9.  Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Gareth Edwards)

8. In a Valley of Violence (Ti West)

7. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (Taika Waititi)

6. Moonlight (Barry Jenkins)

5. Don’t Think Twice (Mike Birbiglia)

4. Green Room (Jeremy Saulnier)
